About the University
The University of Bologna (Università di Bologna) is an Italian university located in Bologna, sometimes called Unibo, the institution's motto is Alma Mater Studiorum.
Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarch, Paracelsus, Nicolaus Copernicus, Albrecht Dürer, Carlo Goldoni, Luigi Galvani, and many other great scientists and thinkers have studied in Bologna in different eras.
The date of foundation of the University of Bologna is 1088. The oldest university in Western Europe. The most prestigious in Italy. The University of Bologna is one of the symbols of a city of world renown. Because of its presence, the capital of Emilia is called "scholarly", in addition to the nicknames "fat" (because of the excellent cuisine) and "red" (by the color of the bricks from which the palaces and towers of the historic center are built).
The University of Bologna is a whole complex of buildings located in different parts of the city. There is a university quarter where half of the buildings are academic and the remaining half is occupied mostly by bars and cafes.
The University of Bologna currently has more than 85,000 students and has a special structure - a "multi-campus" - consisting of five institutions: in Bologna, Forlì, Ravenna, Cesena and Rimini. The University of Bologna was also the first in Italy to have a branch abroad, in Buenos Aires.
The scope of the educational program is large (23 faculties) - it includes all existing fields of knowledge, from basic to advanced. The disciplines are organized according to the requirements of the modern market, so that students can use the tools they need.
In Bologna, the University is located at Via Zamboni 33. Thousands of students walk along this street from morning to evening. The neighborhood around it is also full of places related to the university in one way or another: cafes, stands, and classrooms. One visit to this street is enough to realize the historical importance of this city and this university.
